Trip Tastes: Silver Horse Sage and Other Delights at Morro Bay Wine Seller

Spread the love

Thanks to the lovely people at the Estero Inn in Morro Bay, Andy and I found ourselves with free wine tasting tickets for Morro Bay Wine Seller (601 Embarcadero).  Just a block up from the Inn, it seemed like an ideal spot to sip on some wine and enjoy our first evening in the area. I didn’t anticipate discovering a new delight in the process, but I certainly did: Silver Horse Sage!

But I’m getting ahead of myself. After a jaunt out to Morro Rock, we walked back along Embarcadero trying to gage the best spot to catch the rapidly descending sun. Coupling that desire with the free tickets, a plan started to take shape, and we wandered into Morro Bay Wine Seller.

From the conversations going on around us and the easy familiarity, it seemed obvious that everyone else was local to Morro Bay (or the nearby towns). The entire place was warm and inviting from the decor to the people. It gave it a certain Cheers vibe — fun and not intimidating. It also meant that we didn’t hesitate to get the scoop on the best place to have dinner and other info on the town.

After scanning the wine list, Andy and I decided to be strategic. Between our two tickets, we could mix and match from the list of whites and reds available. It was a perfect way for us both to get at least a small taste of everything.

First up was a lovely Albariño (also Silver Horse, I believe). It ended up being my favorite of the whites, but I quite enjoyed a couple of the others, as well. Am I always that easy to please with white wine? Probably not. But the incredible view and the friendly atmosphere put us both in a pretty receptive mood.

By the time we got to the reds, the sun was sinking quickly. Happily, the tasting room didn’t turn on harsh overhead lights in our area. All of us got to enjoy the last bits of glow. I was so consumed with trying to capture what we were seeing that I completely failed to get a shot of the wine. Safe to say, I was firmly in love with the Silver Horse Sage by then — though you’ll be pleased to know that I didn’t hoard it … entirely. I also very much liked the La Posta Malbec, but then I often gravitate toward Malbec these days.

The wine was finished. We were feeling warm and happy. Our first day in Morro Bay was nearly finished. We took one last look at the fading day, and then we slowly strolled toward the Dutchman’s Seafood House for dinner.

And that is how Morro Bay Wine Seller made the list of my favorite spots to toast to the setting sun.
